Keynote: Carlotta de Bevilacqua, the art of the Human Light
"We need to have the passion of discovering...open the door, push the boundaries...don't be afraid to loose something - if you give, you improve".
Architect, designer and overall humanist, Carlotta de Bevilacqua has been leading the way in contemporary lighting since the 1980's. Responsible for the Brand Strategy, Vision & Strategic Futures and Product Design Innovation at the Artemide Group, a worldwide leader in lighting design with an unparalleled commitment to technological innovation, research and human interaction, the World Design Summit is elated to host Ms. de Bevilacqua for the first time in Montréal as an Industry Keynote speaker this October.
As a groundbreaker in LED research, Carlotta created the concept of "The Human Light", which emphasizes not only the prosperity of all those that interact, work and live with it, but also the planet. Interested in the science behind lighting, Carlotta is also intimately drawn to the sensorial experience of light, aiming to create a synergy between the user and the object with holistic, sustainable and accessible designs.
Ms. de Bevilacqua's work has been displayed in many international exhibitions, to include the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Serpentine Gallery in London and La Triennale di Milano, in Italy. As the Vice President and CEO of the Artemide Group, Carlotta continues to push herself and the companies' own boundaries by facilitating extensive research in the field of photonics, and has developed numerous innovative products that have been honoured with awards and patents for high-quality, high-performing and environmentally friendly lighting.
With a degree in Architecture from Milan Polytechnic (1983), Ms. de Bevilacqua also manages her own architectural and design office located in Milan, Italy, where she designs fresh spaces and buildings with minimal environmental impact that harmonize the relationship between human, architecture, nature and light.
Since 2001, Carlotta has been a university lecturer for the lighting design project lab for the Design Faculty of Politecnico in Milan and from 1999 to 2001, was a workshop lecturer and project leader of innovative products within the Strategic Design Master program. During the years 2012-2013, Ms. Bevilacqua has been a board member of the Board of Direction at the Fondazione La Triennale di Milano while continuing to attend conferences and seminars internationally investigating the movements in contemporary society, the new boundaries of international markets and the evolving needs of the environment in terms of energetic sustainability.
Come meet Carlotta and hear her speak on October 18th, 2017, under one of our six main themes, Design for Beauty this October in Montréal at the World Design Summit Congress.
